Refinement Group's Analysis of Initiative-GPU4

MEASURE “A” THREATENS OUR FUTURE
  • We all want to protect Monterey County, reduce congestion, manage growth. Measure “A” could have just the opposite impact.
  • Written by out-of-town lawyers with no public hearings, no environmental impact report.
  • Locks-in regulations for an entire generation – until 2030, blocking our ability to respond to changes.
  • County legal experts say it may violate state law and the state Constitution. Errors can only be corrected by lawsuits or countywide elections.

MEASURE "A"THREATENS AGRICULTURE

  • Farmers, ranchers are stewards of our agricultural lands. Our County’s major agricultural organizations – including Farm Bureau, Cattlemen, Vintners and Growers – all oppose Measure “A”.
  •  Measure “A” could restrict farmers’ ability to manage their operations. Packaging facilities, greenhouses, tasting rooms could all be restricted. Even creating a lot for your adult child to build a home on your land could require a countywide vote.
