Letters to the editor

Vote
'no' on A, B; 'yes' on C
With regard to the letters to the editor, it has been most
interesting to us in south Monterey County that the majority of the
supporters of Measure A, LandWatch's Community General Plan
Initiative, reside in areas not directly affected if the Initiative
passes at the polls June 5. We have to wonder if their drivers have
ever brought them down from Pebble Beach, Carmel Valley, Carmel,
Monterey or Big Sur to visit our homes and land in south county.
Perhaps if the Initiative passes, voters over there will be happy to
use their many acres of non-ag land for construction of affordable
houses for our workers and processing plants for our industries. I
see it
now: "Welcome to Pebble Beach, the new area for entry-level jobs and
affordable housing!"
Every reasonable businessperson we know - including the many
ranchers, landowners, farmers and vintners who live and work in the
Salinas Valley - are voting for the most realistic plan: the Plan
for People/General Plan Update 4, or Measure C on the ballot.
As much as many of us would like to reside on the Peninsula, it
would most likely not be welcomed by those who will vote in June
from their ivory towers on issues in which they should not have a
voice. They will be voting from over there to prevent us over here
from exercising our landowner rights and ability to present a
reasonable welcome to the growing population that continues to live
and work in our valley.
Remember your first three dates with your sweetheart?
It went "no," "no" and finally went "yes." That is how you should
vote - "no" on Measure A, "no" on Measure B and "yes" on Measure C.
