No on Measure A; Yes on C
Like all countries and states, Monterey county contains a multiple
of interests unique to its geography and history: homeowners,
renters, farm owners, farm workers, business owners, employees,
consumers, Realtors, developers, future home buyers, artists, young,
old, rich and poor.
It is the responsibility of elected officials to govern those
interests in a way that strikes a daily balance so no one finds it
in their own interest to destroy the other.
In order to provide for the future needs of everyone who lives and
works in Monterey, a plan is necessary for growth. Such planning is
extremely complicated and has taken years for the Board of
Supervisors to finalize one - GPU4. No plan will please everyone.
The voters elected officials to do what is best over the long haul.
The people have spoken through them. We govern ourselves this way
and hope for the best.
Who voted for LandWatch? No one! How many hours have they spent with
the other interested parties? It can't compare with the hundreds of
hours supervisors spent trying to gain consensus. How much money has
LandWatch spent researching the implications of its plan? It can't
compare with the $6 million spent over the past six years the county
has spent studying the issues.
I urge voters to reject the rogue General Plan Initiative. GPU4 may
not be perfect but let not the perfect be the enemy of the good.
Support those we elected, who truly reflect the will of the people,
by voting for GPU4. Vote No on A and B and Yes on C and D.
