No on Measure A
I am a longtime resident of Monterey County. Our local elections on
June 5 include Measure A and our community will vote on issues that
affect all of us.
Here are some thoughts in the decision-making process that include
questions that need answers:
When and where were the public hearings on Measure A and where is
the copy of the Environmental Impact Report that should have been
provided to support the initiative?
The county's adopted general plan, GPU4, has a lengthy EIR and had
many public hearings and public meetings.
Do we want development projects to include public hearings and the
normal review process?
Or do you want political soundbites to dictate planning and
development?
Public hearings are crucial when it comes to which direction we go
and how our decisions will impact such things as the cost of
housing.
Measure A requires in-lieu fees that everyone will be charged,
including developers, who will pass the cost of up to $100,000 per
single-family house in coastal areas.
The cost of housing is already out of reach for most of us.
Vote "no" on Measure A.
