Ranch rich
in heritage
I enjoyed Larry Parsons'
April 13 article about the September Ranch development plan but was
disappointed to see Jim Morgens' family heritage and legacy in
Carmel Valley overlooked. As a longtime member of the
Carmel Valley community, I have worked closely with the Morgens
family, especially Howard Morgens, Jim's father, who bought
September Ranch in 1966. Howard and his wife Anne spent many hours
with their sons, Jim
and Ned, on the ranch, instilling in them a respect for the Carmel
Valley landscape and heritage. Jim and his family now spend a
portion of the year at their home in Carmel Valley.
Committed to this
community, the Morgens' plan for September Ranch is based on their
understanding of conservation. What thrills me most is the
preservation of the red barn and equestrian facilities that mean so
much to our community. I know firsthand that the Morgens family is
dedicated to upholding the heritage, beauty and environment of this
family ranch, while dedicating part of the property to much-needed
low-income housing. This plan will provide a meaningful contribution
to the Carmel Valley community.
