Answers needed

I am a longtime resident of Monterey County. Our local elections include Measure A, and our community will vote on issues that affect all of us. Here are some thoughts in the decision-making process that include questions that need answers.

When and where were the public hearings on Measure A, and where is the environmental impact report that should have been provided to support the initiative? The county's adopted general plan (GPU4) has a lengthy EIR and had many public hearings and public meetings.

Second, do we want development projects to include public hearings and the normal review process? Or do you want political sound bites to dictate planning and development? Public hearings are crucial when it comes to what direction we go and how our decisions will affect such things as the cost of housing. Measure A requires in-lieu fees for affordable housing, fees that everyone will be charged, including developers who will pass the cost of up to $100,000 per
single-family home in coastal areas. Housing is already out of reach for most of us.

Vote no on A.
