No on Measure A
Regarding the cartoon in the May 23 Opinion section:
REALTORS in Monterey and throughout California are united in
opposition to Measure A because it threatens fundamental property
rights and undermines sensible community planning. Measure A's
ill-conceived provisions have potential statewide significance as a
threat to private property rights.
As advocates for homeowners, we support intelligent planning.
Measure A undermines community plans and threatens residents'
property values and quality of life. Because of the draconian
provisions of Measure A, it will have a devastating impact on many
small landowners who won't be able to maintain or expand their
businesses, provide housing for their adult children or provide for
their own retirement years.
Those provisions
threaten the Monterey County economy because of restrictions on
businesses expanding or relocating in unincorporated areas.
REALTORS are sensitive to the needs of teachers, paramedics, police
officers and other middle-income workers who cannot afford housing.
A healthy economy directly impacts the ability of families to afford
a home and become productive members of our society.
Measure A threatens to make the county's affordability crisis much
worse. Vote "no" on Measure A.
