Yes on C, D
Chris Fitz, executive director of LandWatch Monterey County, has
stated that Measure A will "fix a broken political system. I have
also heard the LandWatch
comment that Measure A will return power to the voters.
These fancy phrases, designed to incite the public, cover the true
purpose of LandWatch: No growth, and limits for future commercial
development. This
LandWatch goal is fine for the wealthy. For the majority of others
who need a good job and affordable housing, this worsens the problem
of limited jobs and
homes that are far too expensive for the average family. It is also
not acceptable for caring citizens who, regardless of their bank
balance, want to find solutions to the housing crisis that has over
4,000 families sharing cramped houses - living two and three
families to a single-family dwelling.
The county's general plan (Measure C) will provide thousands more
jobs than Measure A. This will help our businesses recruit and offer
housing for a diverse
work force. It is also vital for businesses that wish to locate to
the area.
It is my hope that voters will reject Measure A and support Measure
C for the good of our community, businesses and families who need
jobs and affordable
housing. It is also my hope that voters will recognize the benefits
of supporting Measure D, in support of the general plan, and avoid
the costly litigation
which will certainly occur if this measure is defeated.
