League of Women
Voters loses respect
The overriding mystery of this election to me is whether the League
of Women Voters now believes that it was worth it to compromise its
well-established and deserved reputation as an objective source of
political information in the fight over Measure A?
It was simply a tragedy that the League's reputation was thrown away
because of a group of passionate board members who believed so
fervently in a slow-growth agenda, they couldn't see the danger in
endorsing (one way or the other) a politically divisive ballot
measure.
This will call into question the League's role in future election
forums and issues.
Is it coming in with its own personal bias again? Will its forums
provide objective information?
What a shame.

Daughter defends
Brennan's politics
To all those who have criticized and harassed my mother, Janet
Brennan, president of the League of Women Voters, LandWatch Monterey
County board member, Measure A backer and retired land-use and
transportation planner from both Ventura and Monterey Counties:
I say, go find someone else who is as competent, civic-minded and
ethical.
You will not find that person. My mom is one of a kind, and she
raised like-minded daughters, and I plan on doing the same with my
daughters.
Is it a conflict of interest? I will not gain financially from my
opinion, nor would have the above groups benefitted financially from
a Yes on A. Perhaps the male board of supervisors and all those who
will financially benefit from a No on A are this county's problem.
