No on Measure A
Recently there was an
article in the newspaper title, the price of living in paradise."
It said Monterey County's median household income rose 13.9 percent
to $57,081 from 2004 to 2005 while that increase sounds encouraging,
we must take into consideration that 37 percent of our households
had housing costs surpassing 35 percent of their incomes.
If Measure A were to pass, the building of new homes would not be
curtailed by the amount of stipulations imposed. Lack of housing in
Monterey County has brought the increase in house prices, making our
area unaffordable.
Today we need to embrace development and look to the future -
Monterey
County has a birth rate of 700 babies each month. We need homes for
the
work force, including inclusionary housing.
My roots are here. My children were born, raised and educated here.
If we slow growth by making the process so complicated and
expensive, people will continue to move out.
We need to plan for growth and defeat Measure A with a "no" vote.
