No on Measure A
With regard to a recent letters to the editor in local papers
describing the Measure A plan as "Power to the People," I'm afraid I
don't share this vision. The way I see the Measure A plan is this:
Measure A will cause lawsuits and gridlocks within our county
planning system - so much so that nothing will get done for the next
25 years. Reasonable growth? Many of us will simply go out of
business and take our
business skills elsewhere. It is hard enough to get any reasonable
land planning issue through the current system. How would it be
under the highly restrictive Measure A guidelines?
Measure A will stop the farmers being able to properly farm. Just
ask a Salinas Valley farmer who wants to put in a new processing
plant on their property!
They'll tell you.
Measure A will take away jobs. Our farmers and our vintners will not
be able to expand their businesses, provide jobs and boost the local
economy.
Measure A is an insult to our democracy and the land rights that we
have fought for and treasured for so long in this country.
Measure A is an insult to our elected officials - our Board of
Supervisors, who were put in their positions by the people, for the
people. Who is the "we" in the
Pro-Measure A campaign ads? The "we" in the "we get to choose the
way our county is planned for the next 25 years?"
Measure A will clog up our systems of land planning for 25 years
with its highly restrictive rules.
That's the truth, folks. No way on A; that's what we say.
