Thank LandWatch
As I read the letters to editor, I regret we are in such a mess.
LandWatch and other radical environmental groups can be thanked for
the delay, expense and confusion in the General Plan Update process.
Seven years ago they came to Monterey County with their vision of
the future. It took our community and leaders three years to wake up
and derail their
out-of-town plan. Then we began an open dialogue over the fourth
version of the general plan.
In the three years since honest debate started, LandWatch's side
deserted the process twice: at the Refinement Committee and the
Planning Commission. They decided to push their concept of land use
planning through a referendum and, as one measure apparently wasn't
enough, they forced four measures onto our June ballot.
Some measures are intended to confuse in order to assure that
Landwatch gets their way. If you desire to clean up all this mess,
please vote No, No, Yes, Yes. Put our county's land planning back
into the hands of elected officials and their trained staff. The
voters can decide who will represent them instead of doing land-use
planning at the ballot box.
