LandWatch Executive Director Chris Fitz said Measure A is the only
way to fix a broken political system. He totally misses the point.
LandWatch engaged in two
elections for Board of Supervisors. Its candidates did not win, so
it has concluded that the process is broken. Forget the will of the
voters in Districts 2
and 4.
With respect to Ventura County, which LandWatch cites as an example
of what can happen under the Measure A-type initiative, one should
take note of Ventura's Highway 101 corridor, wall-to-wall outlet
malls and
big-box stores. Each city is building to its limits, fighting for
sales taxes. Traffic is gridlocked. One can look at all the farmland
around it (for hours at a
time without moving a mile). That is what might be expected with
Measure A.
County planner Alana Knaster is highly qualified and competent, with
a great depth of knowledge, compassion, integrity and understanding
of the issues.
Having consulted with her in my quest for insight to the issues
addressed by various measures, I am confident that Measure C,
representing the
supervisor-adopted general plan, serves the best interests of our
community.
